What I am in politics?

Ok this was a question that I asked a whole lot last year, and I have had several friends ask me what they are since. The short answer is I (nor anyone else) can really answer that for you… So here is what I can do I will list a few things that are generally on one side of the other. Now I am going to do this in the form of liberal and conservative. (Generally but not always; conservatives are Republican & liberals are democrats.) Also note this is my opinion based upon the actions of the different people that are categorized on each side, and lots of research.

Liberal Conservative
 Pro-Choice
Sees this an issue in which woman should be able to choose what they do with their own bodies.
 Pro-Life
Believe that having an abortion is killing a baby. Sometimes to the extent that taking birth control is killing a baby (or potentially doing so.
REALITY IN MY VIEW – It appears to me that most people take a position closer to the middle. That abortion shouldn’t be done all of the time on a whim or as a means of birth control, but that it should remain legal especially in cases of rape, incest, and so forth. Very conservative people generally take the position that a baby is a baby regardless thus abortions shouldn’t be allowed under any circumstances. Very liberal people point out that a pregnant woman is risking her life by giving birth, and thus the choice should be hers to make. I am pro-choice more than I am pro-life, but I fit in a little bit on both sides. (Mainly because I do recognize that forcing a baby upon someone can in effect cause them many problems – if you do not understand where this comes from watch Dirty Dancing. Pay attention to more than just the music.)
Feminist
Believe that woman should be treated as well as men, make equal money for equal work, and so on…
Anti-Feminist
Believe that the bible explains why the sexes are treated differently, and it is supposed to be that way…
I don’t think I can really offer insightful commentary on this one, I am without a doubt a feminist, and nothing makes me more upset than the propaganda that conservatives put upon this issue. (Suggesting that only lesbians are feminists, that they do not understand gender differences and so on. Basically trying and succeeding in making woman afraid to say or act like they are feminists for fear of being labeled in this way.)
Affirmative Action is Good
Believe that because of the way we have limited specific types of people we need to “even the score”.
Affirmative Action is Bad
Believe that affirmative action is reverse racism, and that to even that score the specific type of people need to work at it.
Anti-Death Penalty Pro-Death Penalty
I used to be for the death penalty, after all I am human and I see certain things to be worthy of death. However, after a lot of research I have learned that our system is flawed to an extent that I am not comfortable with it.
Regulated Market Totally Free Market- Unregulated
I think there is a balance that needs to be maintained here, the government shouldn’t have to much control, but the market cannot (as being proved right now with the economy) regulate itself.
Environmental
Worry about things like global warming.
Economic
Worry about what policies to help environment will do to the economy.
This isn’t nice, but in this particular one I find the conservative view to be ignorant. When you ignore over 90% of scientists you are doing yourself and everyone a disservice.
Anti-Gun Pro-Gun
Most people fall somewhere in the middle. They can see the reasons why armor piercing rounds might be bad, but do not want to take away someone’s ability to own a gun. (Although I would preach safe practices.)
Pro-Health Care Change
Would like everyone to receive health care regardless of ability to pay.
Pro-Market
     Health care should remain privatized.
I don’t think I need to get into this one, just read a bit of this blog (there is an actual blog if you are reading this on facebook).
Against Patriot Act Not as against Patriot Act
I can’t believe that we gave up so much so fast… Give me liberty or give me death was forgotten in the heat of anger.
Against God in Governmental places (schools and such) For God in Governmental places
Equal rights for Gay people (including marriage) Gay people should not be allowed to marry
Higher taxes and more programs (and thus bigger government) Lower taxes, less programs and thus smaller government
For welfare (and other social programs such as food stamps) Against welfare (if you need help get it from your relatives, church, help yourself)
This is another that a middle ground is most likely best…

So in general I am liberal. Not 100%, and I can see merit in both sides in a lot of things but still more liberal than conservative. What throws me more to one side or the other is simply the ignorance I see in one side. However, one thing that isn’t written up there is that conservatives in general pay more attention to what things cost, and that is a good thing.

There are so many more topics that can be put on one side or the other. (Google the terms if you wonder about more, I put the ones I see as most important.)

What I do before I go to bed…

Just got out of classes (yes it is 10:00 PM), and I was doing my nightly stuff. I haven’t mentioned it on here yet, but I quit smoking again… I am now doing my nightly stuff. So here is what I do before I go to bed.

I go to MyPyramid and log what I ate today (menu planner). It lets me know what I need to eat more of and less of. Now, let me tell you I have been doing doing really good and loosing weight (more than with any diet that I have done), until this quit smoking thing. Guess I need to buy carrots or something.  The good part? Dust quit too! He has gained ten pounds! (He is underweight to that is GOOD.)

Then I run over and make sure that Nina has been doing her spelling games. (Last year with everything we tried she still didn’t do well. Using these games she has been getting at least a 80%) WEIRD

Then I go to Heaven’s schooland log her hours and make sure that there isn’t anything I need to print for “tomorrow” as well as to check my kmail to be sure that none of the teachers need anything from me.

Then I go to my school and check my email, and depending on how tired I am, I check what is going on in my classes. (More often I do it in the morning.) Then I check my NORMAL email. (I reply sometimes, and sometimes I don’t… Depends on how tired I am

Depending on if anyone had anything to do with a doctor, dentist or whatever I then go enter that information in my family’s health manager. I then decide if I am gonna go play my silly games or not.

Last I decide what I am gonna read before I go to sleep. (Tonight? Forensics Under Fire by Fisher.)

What did I do today? Laundry, dishes, bathed all 6 dogs, bathed both cats (they made friends with a skunk the other night), watched my lectures, read some of my work for classes, helped Katrina with her math homework, ran to town, and on on on…

Good Night :)

Idle hands … I wish

Has anyone else noticed that when you have nothing to do you are busier then heck? I am out of school (so no tests, no work, no classes), Heaven is out of school (so no giving her tests, no making sure she has work), and that is what I have been mainly doing for the last 3 almost 4 months. So then doesn’t it stand to reason that I should have tons of time to do whatever I want? Well even if you agree and my reasoning is sound somehow or another it isn’t.

Yesterday; started out with cleaning. Got my vacuum cleaned (yes it was really gross, dust all over it and the washable filters were nasty, and so on). Watered all the plants and miscellaneous other things. Dust gets off work early, because the rig was broke. Not sure I understand what happened there, but whatever it was there was smoke. So Dustin asks me to go to town with him, to pick up the old car. Heaven drove it to town last Saturday, then that night we got that blizzard so Dustin picked her up. (I don’t think a 15 year old is ready to drive in ice alone, much less a blizzard.) We left the car at a friends house. So I think sure, there are a few things I need to pick up.

Three hours later, we get home. Do some more cleaning, and prepare stuff for a salad for the pot luck that we always have at the Christmas singing thing that the school does. So chopping lettuce, carrots, onions, green peppers, black olives, mushrooms and so forth. (Separated of course for anyone that is picky.) Go eat at the pot luck, watch Nina sing 2 songs, say a poem, and tell a joke. Now it is 7 o,clock. Go to check in on my blog stuff. My laptop crashes so I run a whatever scan by the virus/defrag ect and shut it off.

So I did a little bit of laundry, and cleaned up a little on my room. Bam it is time to go to bed. Then Heaven comes to me and tells me Monkey is sick. I go look, and the poor girl was doing horrible. I looked on the Internet this morning to see if I could figure out what happened, the closest thing I could find was here. Those were the symptoms (minus there was no blood). It was so shocking, she was fine at noon. (OH, Monkey is a rat.) She was only 4 months old, and Heaven’s favorite little girl. I was up until about 3 in the morning. Monkey was gone by 1, but Heaven needed comforted as she was upset.

Then Dust got up late this morning, so he woke me up to make him coffee…. Girr?

Today? Going out of town. I have some shopping to do (well because I have to go anyway). My house phones have died (all but one), need a new tooth brush head and some other things like that. Why are we going? Heaven has a orthodontist appointment. I expect another long day… *sigh, where did the idea of me having lots of time to do whatever I wanted go?

Cold

I caught some nasty bug, so I  have been sleeping a lot and going to bed really early. I got up this morning as Dust was in a “mood” because his work truck wouldn’t start. I so feel for him having to go anywhere today, it has warmed up a little… The truck started and he went to work. School is having a late start (starting at 10 instead of 8), so I let Nina sleep in… Heaven is out of school until the 5th of January…

12-15-08

Yes really that is warmed up… I hate it when we have weather like this, cold is normal this kind of cold, not so much. So anyway that is why I haven’t been on here to much. I took some meds this morning and I am feeling half way human so I am going to try to get a little cleaning done. I am reading some interpretation on the bible and plan on making a post about that book soon… :)

Edit: Dust gets to come home because of the cold. Evidently -20 is OK, but -40 (as it is out in the field) is to cold for them to work… Thank goodness

Sony is becoming a bad word…

I shouldn’t take the time to blog right now, but I have to get this off my chest and on top of that I just finished my HUGE report so I think I can take a few minutes out. (I will try to reply to the comments later this week.) Heaven’s laptop (almost a grand) that has already had to have a new hard drive, died again today. Well it starts it goes to the login screen then promptly blacks out. Then it comes back and blacks out, it will do that several times then restart. Upon restarting it has that message about being able to safe start. I attempted a safe start and that didn’t work either.

I called the library and asked for a response (they aren’t open on Monday) asking if she can do her classes this week at the library. Then of course I didn’t get the extended warranty as the manufacture warranty for a sony is “so good” so best buy tells me that it will cost me to get the dang thing fixed. GIRR

Anyway, I am a bit angry at the darn thing. Of course it has to be THIS week, the one week I can’t really share my laptop… SIGH (Did I mention we bought this darn the the 20th of September?)

My blog stuff again

I went ahead and spent a good half an hour on the blog. I haven’t used this background before, it is pretty, but I had to add some HTML to this one. I think other than making stuff bold and italicized I have forgotten it all. (I had to look up how to make a link, I have been SO lazy on using any html for like the last year.) So I think I have it all up right, if you happen to find any links that don’t work let me know. One more week of school, then I am out for a while. Hopefully I will be able to make some blog posts with some substance while I am out of school.

Well I do have a ton of housework to catch up on too. (Not the all the time stuff, the take down the curtains and wash them, clean out the heater ducts, and stuff like that.) I really need to teach my kids to help out a little more. Not that they don’t help at all, but they do the minimum amount they can and not get in trouble (i.e. dad doesn’t notice and work their butts off.) So I did that, some laundry, and looked up some more stuff for my report. Did I mention that ten page report isn’t started yet (well the planning outline is done, but not any writing has started.) So that is what I will work on tomorrow, and hopefully have a little time to study the first test on Tuesday. (I have a B without taking the final in my Criminal Legal Procedure class – so I am totally skipping the final. That will give me a little extra time to study in my other classes and to get that report out of the way.)

Good Conversations

Part of my research has been to look at the things that bloggers have been saying about the possible people for election. I am quite surprised at how much negativity there is on that one. Anyway, sometimes I comment, sometimes I don’t. Generally I try not to be negative (not saying I haven’t been, I am saying I have tried and the vast majority of the time I have succeeded.)

Normally I just end up shutting up, because so much of the propaganda gets to so many people. Of course it depends on which candidate you prefer (for the most part) as to what you make of the propaganda; if you believe it or if you don’t, if you think it is over the top or you don’t and do on. One such instance was a pro-choice ad that used children. I don’t remember what the ad even was, but I remember the reason they were attacking it was that it used children. I didn’t understand because almost every ad that I have ever seen for the pro-life side of the debate uses children. I guess it is just a matter of perspective? If you are on that side using children is OK, but if you aren’t it isn’t? I don’t know… Just a thought, it might work the same way it does when you see the ads for the candidates themselves.

On that note I rarely have a good conversation with most people. Most people aren’t open to your point of view, of course they don’t see it that way but that is how it is. I am sure I am guilty of it too. I think it is in part human nature. However, this guy that I didn’t even read but one entry on  his blog to begin with was talking about bias in the media. Anyone who knows me or has read anything here knows this is a subject that I am interested in, he made me laugh to see what happened take a look here. (NOTE: That is a link to a blog that has TONS of propaganda in McCain’s favor.)

Discovery

I discovered a couple of things yesterday, about myself.

First, I will not die without the internet. Second, I get really grumpy when my plans don’t go as I expect.

My internet was down from 4pm yesterday until noon today. I have a specific schedule I follow for getting my work done, and other than that COP class it works out perfectly. (I totally procrastinate on that one every week.) So what happens when I have no internet for almost a whole day? I get extra lazy and have no idea what to do with myself.

I watched several TV shows, and pouted all night last night. Then today, I attempted to work around it with guess work.

Today I got a call and Heaven will have a doctors appointment with her hematologist next week. As she is coming to a town near me (well about 2.5-3 hour trip all around, much nicer than the huge trip we took to see her in the first place.) Heaven is doing really well, much better than anyone was suggesting for her. I am so happy on that one.

Nina is doing really well too. Other than I can’t seem to get her to want to study her spelling tests. I have tried games and all sorts of other resources. I am kind of at a loss on this one. While I have never been able to spell well, I always wanted to do good so I studied… Any ideas?

Feeling Overwhelmed

First I slept in this morning. (I have been having bad dreams again.) So I am not sure how Nina got off to school, which makes me feel like the suckiest mother on earth. She must have made it though, because she isn’t here. I was woke up by a call from the people I sent in a complaint to about Heaven’s school problems (not her Internet school, the school she was attending before that.) The lady was way awesome, she actually called back in a half an hour to let me get myself woke up.

So I talked to her for about an hour. There may or may not be a case, I may or may not be able to do anything (or them, however you want to look at it.) Either way though, I feel a little better knowing that at least it will be looked at and if the system doesn’t work for me and Heaven at least if it is there I know it has to work for someone. So either way I feel better about the system in general, even if I am not part of the people who are going to be helped.

Then I realized that I had a scheduling conflict. I have an appointment at the dentist at 1 (an hour away) then Heaven has an appointment for the eye doctor at 2 (over an hour from the first appointment). So I cancelled mine and kept Heaven’s. To which Dustin (just got home early) is hollering at me because I am in pain and Heaven isn’t. He does make the point that one appointment is easier to make than the other.

Anyway, I was going to also talk about kid care and stuff (trying to get Nina on it since she has no insurance as it was attached to Dustin’s old job), but I guess I will talk to Dust a bit then get ready for the appointment with the eye doctor.
